Safety Director - UK & Ireland

We're delighted to be partnering with Smurfit Kappa, a FTSE 100 company, and one of the leading providers of paper-based packaging solutions in the world, to secure a new Safety Director. This is a unique opportunity to define and shape safety management and strategy across the UK and Ireland region.

Reporting directly to the UK&I Operations Director, this role will oversee and lead the safety strategy across 35 sites based in the UK and Ireland region.
Responsibilities of the Safety Director will include:
Leading the overall strategy for safety, in line with European standards and policies, supporting the drive towards continuously improving safety performance
Driving improvements in safety performance through strategic gap analysis, developing programmes to reduce risk and strive for best practice
Coaching, managing and mentoring a team of Health and Safety leaders across operational sites throughout the UK and Ireland
Engaging across the business, including working with business unit leads, function leads and heads of operation, to drive a positive safety culture
The successful Safety Director candidate will have:
Proven experience in large and complex organisations, ideally within manufacturing, engineering or an industrial environment
Proven leadership and management experience within a national matrix, multi-site role and an ability to communicate and engage with a wide range of stakeholders
A strong technical knowledge across health and safety legislation, with relevant professional qualifications and membership of relevant professional body (e.g. CMIOSH)
Strong project management experience, with a demonstrable desire for continuous improvement
