With the summer holidays soon over and autumn making an unwelcomed early appearance, the September Surge health, safety, environment, and sustainability recruitment is upon us.
Right now, is when it is believed to be the most active time for recruitment and job searching. Fuelled by returning to work after a summer break and now looking for more, job applications usually peak in September and October.
Similarly, we tend to see an influx in job opportunities during this time. It’s naturally a good time to hire HSE and sustainability professionals as it allows for people to start in the position before the end of the fiscal year, as well as combatting any vacancies you have due employees resigning post-holiday.

It could be a great chance to refresh your talent pool, progressing existing employees and introducing new talent, or creating senior roles to bring in specialist skills and expertise.
Our key tip for hiring in a busy period is to move quickly where possible and always be clear and realistic about timelines. There are a lot of factors which will influence the time it takes to fill a role, including contract type and skill set required. For example, if you are looking to hire a contractor, this may take a matter of days, whereas a permanent hire will take longer due to a more thorough interview process and candidate notice periods. The golden rule being ‘the faster you move, the more likely you are to secure the best candidate.’
Strong candidates won’t wait long, particularly in today’s busy candidate market. However, if there are clear milestones and open communication, you have a higher chance of securing the best professionals for the role.
